Germany! Day Three.

On Sunday we started out with a lovely breakfast at my parents house, as we did almost every day. Julian did a bit of composing. For weeks he’s been “writing” a “song” called “The Eye of the Runway.”

We spent part of the day at a fort called Ehrenbreitstein. We took a cable car there across the Rhine River; the boys loved it. We checked out the fort and grounds and spent a lot of time at the Playmobil exhibit there. It was so much fun. I grew up playing Playmobil; it was my most favorite toy ever. It was amazing to see all the cool things I used to play with in the 80s…it made me feel old and young at the same time.

Afterwards we met up with my old friend Nicky. She drove all the way just to see us for a couple of hours, and it meant so much to me. We’ve been friends for 16 years and have 5 kids between us, and yet it’s always like nothing has changed. It’s so comforting to know that even though we live on different continents and may not always know about the other’s every day struggles and joys, the friendship remains solid.

We ended our day at a German restaurant. Schnitzel, spaetzle, sausages, and beer. We were very happy full.
