Summer…YAY!

It’s finally a proper NYC summer. The kind where you stand in front of the a/c for a while once you’re back inside. The kind where you buy lemonade for the kids by the gallon. The kind where you hit the beach!

On Sunday we went to Far Rockaway. It was really great. And very crowded. It was probably the most crowded I’ve ever seen it there. But we loved every minute of it. The boys had a blast digging and playing in the water. Arthur loved going in and jumping around in the (pretty powerful!) waves with Papa.

After a full day of beach fun, we were all pretty tired. So first we did this:

And then this:

Julian actually passed out on Jeff’s lap on the A train and was not happy when we had to wake him up. Sorry, no pictures; he was in a bad mood. Here he is anxiously awaiting the arrival of the A train. Because holy subwayWe adore you.

We ended the day with tacos at a lovely little restaurant on our street. And because we still had one or two clean swimsuits and the temps are in the 90s, we hit the pool today! I’ve never taken both boys swimming on my own, but decided to give it a shot.

You’re not allowed to bring in any floating devices into any of the city’s public pools, but to the Brooklyn Bridge Park pop-up pool you can. So I had the boys in their swim vests, and it worked out great. Julian learned how to move around independently and “swam” half way across the (small) pool on his own. He was so proud. Arthur pretended to be a boat, so there was lots of honking. Honk honk honk!

We made some friends with other friendly people there and just hung out and drank lemonades.

We headed home just when the boys started laying around…I was thinking they might fall asleep right there! They cried. They didn’t want to leave! We vowed to come back soon (tomorrow).
